Regional Spotlight
Each week, we pick a regional Web site to
highlight, to give you a look at what's going on with AYSO regions
around the country.
This week, we look at Region 47 where Richard
Garcia is the Regional Commissioner. Region 47 is located in Section 1, Area R.
If you would like your region highlighted, make
sure your Web site URL is up-to-date on eAYSO. Just send your URL
information to Joan
at the NSTC and she'll do the rest.

Important Policy
Change
As the election campaigns begin to heat up,
AYSO members should be aware of a recent policy change related to
political actions approved by the National Board of Directors at its
meeting on May 25, 2007.
This change to Policy Statement 4.3 was
prompted by some clarifications recently provided by the Internal
Revenue Service. It is now permissible for AYSO regions, areas
and sections and individual AYSO members (in their official capacities)
to become involved in campaigns for or against ballot initiatives that
directly affect the operations of the AYSO program. AYSO regions
and individual AYSO members are still strictly prohibited from becoming
involved in campaigns for or against candidates for public elective
office, even when one or another candidate supports or opposes a ballot
measure the passage of which is in the best interests of the
region. Best advice is to stick to the ballot measure and refrain
from mentioning any candidate or any candidate's position on the ballot
measure. Click here for more information on the AYSO
policy change.
More detail on the subject of political
intervention by non-profit organizations can be found on the IRS Web site.

National Games 2008
The National
Games 2008 Lottery Draw was held at the NAGM on May 27. All 1438
submissions for slots in the Games were pulled manually and entered
into a Master Draw Order. Hours later, with intense work done by
the National Games staff with help from the National Tournament
Council, the first 24 invitees per age division were determined and
posted. This is a first for any lottery draw - the results for
invitations were done on site and posted within 12 hours of the start
of the draw!
Congratulations
to all who worked so hard to make this happen AND to the regions who
will receive the first set of invitations on or around June 15.
Regional commissioners will be the recipients, so be watching the
mail! First invitees will have until September 15 to submit their
acceptance and the $500 registration fee.
For a listing
of the entire lottery draw, click here. For
an explanation of how the draw was done, click here.
Tournament Handbook
Now Online
The new and vastly improved AYSO National Tournament Handbook and related
forms are now on line and downloadable. Please take a look and let us
know what you think! And tournament directors, please start
to use all of these forms - it makes your planning so much
simpler!

Improved Access To
Online Training
Work has been completed on a new data
integration tool that will greatly improve access to AYSO's Online
Training site and speed up the posting of certifications for those who
successfully complete the online courses. Volunteers will now
have access to the training site within 24 hours of being activated by
the regional CVPA (weekends and holidays excepted). Additionally,
certifications will now be posted to each volunteer's record within 24
hours of successful completion (weekends and holidays excepted).
For more information on AYSO's online training program click here.

NSTC Expense Deadline
Approaching
Please be advised that all reimbursement
requests that are to be charged to the National Support & Training
Center (NSTC) budget must be received at the AYSO NSTC office on or
before Friday, July 13th. This includes all expenses incurred
through the end of our fiscal year (June 30, 2007). We realize
this allows less time than the standard 60 Day Policy, however it is
necessitated by our need to "close the books" in order to complete our
yearly financial statements (July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007) in a timely
manner. If expenses are not booked in the proper year, they will
negatively affect next year's budget. Any reimbursements received
after Friday, July 13th will be returned - unpaid. If you have
further questions, please contact Cynthia Harrison in Accounting at
(800) 872 2976 ext. 5416. We thank you for your cooperation and
understanding on this matter.

Goal Safety - it's
never too late!
A 10-year-old soccer player in Winchester,
VA was killed when an unsecured portable goal tipped over on him.
The fact this was not an AYSO player does not minimize the tragedy -a
tragedy that could have been averted.
The spring and tournament seasons are
underway and many regions are already preparing for their fall 2007
starts. Please remember to take the time to think about goal
safety and how it protects your players, parents, the region and the
organization. Goal safety is addressed in our National Policy Statements 2.10 and in the Safety
Director Manual. If you would like to obtain a copy of the Safety
Director Manual, which includes goal safety as well as many other
safety precautions, please contact Juanita Williams at
1-800-USA-AYSO extension 5497

eCerts Online
Reminder
It is that time of year again when regions
will start to request certificates of insurance through eCerts Online
for the 2007-08 Membership year. Visit www.soccer.org, click on AYSO Business, hold the
cursor on Insurance, follow the drop down to Liability Insurance, then
eCerts Login and click. Below are a few reminder points to make the
process easier. If you have questions, please call 800-872-2976
ext 5461.
1. Download the User Guide provided
just below the login screen. It contains the answers to most of your
questions.
2. Do not issue the certificate to the region or as "a
copy." All certificates should be issued to the property owner.
3. If using a school site, issue the certificate to the school
district unless it is a private school.
4. If you are using multiple sites within a school district, park
system or city, issue one certificate and make copies to give to the
individual sites - if required.
5. If an owner wants to listed as "additional insured", in eCerts
you must attach an endorsement.
For complete
instructions on using the eCerts Online system, download the AYSO User
Guide located just under the login screen on www.soccer.org. Please remember that the holder(s) of the
certificate are the owner(s) of the property and NOT you or the AYSO
region. Also, certificates are issued to school districts and not
individual schools unless it is a private school.

An online course containing much of the information needed for U-10
Coach certification is now available on the AYSO Online Training web site. Volunteers
interested in learning more about coaching these young players can be
directed this site to get the basics, then need only attend a field
session in order to get the certification. As with the other AYSO
Online Training courses, access is limited to currently registered
volunteers, and an AYSO Volunteer I.D. number will be needed to get on
the site. Click here to learn how to access the AYSO Online
Training site. |
Region
751 & AYSO Soccer Camps to Host VIP Clinic
AYSO Region 751 in Hyde Park, IL will be
running a FREE VIP clinic this summer with the guys and gals from AYSO
Soccer Camps.
The VIP clinic is scheduled for July 9th - July 13th in conjunction
with the AYSO Soccer Camp taking place that same week.
AYSO VIP Program provides a quality soccer
experience for children - and adults - whose physical or mental
disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on
mainstream teams. VIP teams may include those who are mentally,
physically or emotionally challenged.
AYSO Soccer Camps Regional Director, Peter
Knight states, "All children need to experience a sense of belonging
and acceptance. The AYSO VIP program offers that acceptance and truly
gives everyone a chance to play this great game. We are delighted to
help in any way we can."
